CONSULTING AND ADVOCACY SERVICES
The Process
1. Telephone Consultation
The first step is a telephone consultation to ensure Dr. Wulf’s skills will guarantee your family’s needs are met.
2. Records Review and Provider Consultation
We will meet to discuss the review results, your child’s education needs, and any recommendations regarding further follow-up.
3. Direct Observation
At times, Dr. Wulf’s work may additionally include direct observation of the student’s current educational placement, education regarding special education laws, parent/guardian rights for a child with special education needs, conference calls between providers or school personal, and attending 504 or IEP team meetings to review evaluation results and programming needs.
4. Progress
Dr. Wulf will work with you so that your child will progress according to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act over time. At other times, Dr. Wulf may act as a background consultant as the parent leads their child’s advocacy.
Advocacy
As your advocate, Dr. Wulf strives to provide consultation and educational services to help you make informed decisions about the best ways to support your child in reaching their full potential. As problems arise, people often forget to obtain all relevant information and build an informed assessment. As tension builds, involved parties may polarize into opposing positions.
When parents and school personnel are at odds with one another, the student is often caught in the middle feeling stressed or confused. Even though the adults believe they are helping the situation, it has the opposite effect on the child in most cases.
As your consultant and advocate, Dr. Wulf will work to help you achieve and maintain a positive working relationship with your child’s school personnel. The student is best supported by a collaborative team that provides support across school and home settings.
Dr. Wulf works with parents in the South East by providing an individualized and student-centered process of consultation and advocacy. She provides options, strategies, and recommendations tailored to your specific situation and needs. She also collaborates with students, parents, school representatives, and community providers to develop consensus and mutual agreements that provide the student with the necessary support, optimizing their overall learning experience. She works with you to help you become informed and empowered advocates for your child.
